Meet Your Coach: Mandie Crawford

Mandie Crawford knows women and business! A former Hamilton Spectator newspaper columnist who has interviewed over 500 women entrepreneurs since 2004, she has a grass-roots understanding of the issues they face.

Mandie knows part of the problem lies in the women's own belief in their abilities. The Coaching Coach sessions will tackle their key concerns, give a reality check and address issues such as marketing and business growth.

Mandie founded Roaring Women in 2004 with a single meeting in Hamilton, Ontario and a passionate vision. Since then, the premier networking organization has grown to 19 meetings across Canada to promote, educate and connect entrepreneurs. There is also a meeting in Seattle, WA.

Mandie is a two time nominee for Athena and was nominated as "Most Powerful Women in Canada - Top 100" for 2006. She has spoken at The Women of Influence Series in Calgary and McMaster University has called her "Canada's Guru of Women Entrepreneurs". She was the first Canadian Pearl at the fourth annual Project Legacy held in New York City.

She has self published two business books, "7 Simple Principles" which includes inspirational anecdotes from her career as a police officer, and "When Every Second Counts" on time management.

Finally, a Certified Behaviour Specialist, Mandie Crawford trains organizations and individuals to understand their own personalities and motivations and then apply this information to enhance communication with others.

What Happens in a Coaching Coach Session?

Do you want to get fired up? Coaching sessions are fun and full of energy! You will join a group of women entrepreneurs like yourself, who have a desire to grow their business. Bring one key question to ask Mandie Crawford. She will respond with ideas, solutions and tips based on her work with hundreds of entrepreneurs. Other members of the group may have ideas for you too. Then sit back and benefit from hearing other's questions and answers. You will be surprised how much of it applies to you!

The Coaching Coach session takes place in the Coaching Coach or in the store at selected STAPLES Business Depot locations across Canada. Each session lasts for about 2 hours. In addition to the coaching session, Mandie Crawford may present on a relevant topic inside the STAPLES Business Depot store. And some locations may offer coupons and other promotions.

Question:

How do I get the media to pay attention to my business?

Answer:

The Media reports on 'News' or items of interest to the general public.  They struggle from day to day to put good information or information the public shows interest in - into their media.  However most media is not paid for by the purchaser but by the advertiser.  So the more the media sells its prduct - the more they can charge for their advertising.  It is in their interest to sell as many issues (or views) as possible and to do that they must give the public what it is looking for.

So - as a business owner if you can tie your product or service into a trend or a story that the media is already reporting - then they can expand by speaking with you.  Keep in touch with trends and current events.  When something is reported about your industry and you have more information - contact a reporter or issue a press release and offer them good information.  They may not use your story this time - but they may keep it on file for the future.
